Milton Concert Band is very pleased to have Gary Martin as conductor and musical director. Gary is a graduate of the University of Toronto where he earned his Bachelor of Music degree and formed the basis for his successful future in the arts.
Gary has been teaching at the elementary, secondary and university levels for over thirty years and currently works at Royal St. George’s College leading music classes from grade three through to the university AP level. He competes and tours with his school ensembles and is extremely proud of his students’ accomplishments.
Gary has studied conducting with many influential leaders in the field and has conducted numerous local bands including the North York Concert Band and the Hamilton Concert Band. In addition to leading the MCB, he presently conducts the Megacity Swing Band and the GTA Swing Band.
As a performer, Gary has been privileged to work with many talented artists including Moe Koffman and Don Menza. He continues to perform with both the Mississauga Big Band Jazz Ensemble and the Octokats and arranges and scores music for various ensembles, film, theatre and ballet. One of his recent compositions for concert band, “True North Strong And Free”, has been performed across Canada, and his film scores have premiered at the Cannes Film Festival.
